Thank you for coming to visit this site – this is how the singing event works ……
.
Leicester Sing for Water is an annual event taking place at Leicester’s Riverside Festival.
Anybody can join in the event which brings together choirs and individuals from far and wide. We get together as a “Massed Choir” and sing 6 songs in harmony on the stage at Leicester’s Riverside Festival. Some of the choirs who come as a group will also sing something from their own repertoire, on the day.
First you need to create a singer login for yourself. One of the team will receive your request and give you permission to create your account (this is to stop ‘bots’ from accessing the music which are copyrighted).
Next you need to download the singer resources – teaching tracks to listen to and scores / lyrics to read (it is not necessary to be able to read music notation). You can learn the songs individually OR you can choose to come to some rehearsals:
Amika Choir – Saturday afternoons in Woodgate Resources Centre – £6.50 a session
Red Leicester Choir – Wednesday evenings at the Secular Hall – £6 a session
In May we will organize some online rehearsals (details to come) and we will all get together for a rehearsal on the morning of the event (more details to come).
We ask each singer to raise a donation for WaterAid. A goal of £30 per singer would be wonderful, but whatever you manage to raise will be appreciated. You can collect donations from friends and family through sponsorship or another form of fundraising. In previous years, some choirs have made a communal effort and baked, sold bric-a-brac and plants or held raffles. You can download and print a sponsor form on our website page called Money Matters.
Most of the money raised in the past has come through sponsorship of the singers and we also collect donations from the audience on the day. You can find out more about how to send in the results of your fundraising on the Money Matters Page.
There are still far too many children dying of waterborne diseases and far too many people living without access to clean water, sanitation, or health education. So let’s get going – inviting along friends and family, raising money, practicing songs if you want to join in, and making it a great event at the Riverside Festival on June 4th 2023. We can change the lives of people in Malawi through the WaterAid projects there!
Many thanks for all your vital help,
