Obviously we couldn’t go ahead with Leicester Sing for Water 2020 – but the GREAT NEWS is that we are all set to run a virtual fundraising event to take place in 2021.

We plan to get together on Zoom on SUNDAY JUNE 6th at 2pm and share an hour and a half of music – including some singing ourselves lead by our brilliant choir leaders, and some recorded by musicians who have supported our event when we have performed live at The Riverside Festival in previous years. We can’t mix our voices on Zoom because of the time lag, but we will be able to sing together with the backing track, and share our love of singing in that moment in time, raising money for a cause we all hold very dear. We will sing four songs together: Long Walk to Freedom, Pokarekare Ana, Sangena Thina and The River.
We are asking people who want to join in our event to book a free ticket through Eventbrite. We would HATE to find we could not let everyone in!)
Anyone who enjoys singing is welcome to join in this event raising money for WaterAid. If you are in a choir, invite everyone in your choir to join the project and learn the four communal songs together! If you register, you will be able to download the scores and rehearsal mp3s on this website. Then you can listen, choose the part that best suits your voice, and get practising so that you have a great time singing on the day.
We have wonderful choir leaders who are giving their time and sharing their skills with us on the day, and each has agreed to run a virtual practice session, each leading one song. Details of these rehearsals (which will take place on Zoom) are available here.
Raising money for WaterAid
We hope that each singer will raise a donation for WaterAid. A goal of £30 per singer would be wonderful, but whatever you manage to raise will be appreciated. In the past singers have collected donations through sponsorship or another form of fundraising. See the Money Matters page for further details.
And why are we doing this?
Because there are still far too many children dying of waterborne diseases – and far too many people living without access to clean water, sanitation, or health education. Let’s get going, raising money, practising songs and making it a great event in 2021 to change the lives of people in Malawi through the WaterAid projects there!
