Leicester City Council Festivals and Events Team are planning to run the Riverside Festival over the first weekend of June 2022, and so we are avidly planning to run our choir fundraising event at the festival in Bede Park on Sunday June 5th at 2pm as we have every year since 2008 (excepting 2020 and 2021- and we all know why!) There are still far too many children dying of water-borne diseases and far too many people living without access to clean water and sanitation – so we want to make a real difference to the lives of those people…
Announcing the GREAT NEWS that we raised over £1,920 at our virtual singing event in 2021 and we are planning Leicester Sing For Water ‘in real life’ in 2022! We got together on Zoom and shared an hour and a half of music – including some singing ourselves lead by our brilliant choir leaders, and some music recorded by musicians who had supported us in past live events. We couldn’t mix our voices on Zoom because of the time lag, but we were able to sing together with the backing tracks, and shared our love of singing in that moment…
You can get involved in this fun, singing event, and raise funds for WaterAid
The organising team are absolutely thrilled report to that our fundraising total for Leicester Sing for Water 2021 exceeded £1,920. This is a considerable amount – especially considering that we could not perform live in person, we had far fewer singers than in normal times, and of course there was no live audience! If you were involved and have already donated to WaterAid using the “Donate Today” button above, we want to thank you for supporting the event and for your generosity. If you missed the event and would like to watch it, you can see it on the LSFW…
What to expect when we get together on June 6th 2021 …..
Raising Money for WaterAid
Leicester Sing for Water is an annual event which usually brings together choirs, singers and volunteers from the Midlands of England. It first took place in 2008 and over the years singers have raised over £50,000 to help fund WaterAid projects all around the world.
There are still far too many children dying of waterborne diseases and far too many people living without access to clean water, sanitation, or health education. So let’s get going – inviting along friends and family, raising money, practising songs if you want to join in, and making it a great event at the Riverside Festival on June 5th 2022. We can change the lives of people in Malawi through the WaterAid projects there!
It’s hoped that each singer raises a donation for WaterAid. A goal of £30 per singer would be wonderful, but whatever you manage to raise will be appreciated. You can collect donations from friends and family through sponsorship or other form of fundraising. In previous years, some choirs have made a communal effort and baked, sold bric-a-brac and plants or held raffles.
Most of the money raised in the past has come through sponsorship of the singers and we will also collect donations from the audience on the day.
You can find out more about how to send in the results of your fundraising on the Money Matters Page.
Many thanks for all your vital help,
