Raising Money for WaterAid
Book your ticket to join in the Leicester Sing For Water concert on June 6th here
Leicester Sing for Water is an annual event which usually brings together choirs, singers and volunteers from the Midlands of England, but this year, for obvious reasons, it’s online so you’re welcome to join in from anywhere in the world, so long as you’re happy to be awake at 14:00 BST and to raise money for WaterAid. It first took place in 2008 and over the years singers have raised over £50,000 to help fund WaterAid projects all around the world.
There are still far too many children dying of waterborne diseases and far too many people living without access to clean water, sanitation, or health education. Even though we can’t get together in person this year, we can meet up online and have an afternoon of singing or listening to the singers and celebrating the difference WaterAid is making to the lives of some of the world’s poorest people. So let’s get going – inviting along friends and family, raising money, practising songs if you want to join in, and making it a great event in 2021. And let’s change the lives of people in Malawi through the WaterAid projects there!
It’s hoped that each singer will raise a donation for WaterAid. A goal of £30 per singer would be wonderful, but whatever you manage to raise will be appreciated. You can collect donations from friends and family through sponsorship or other form of fundraising. In normal times, some choirs have made a communal effort and baked, sold bric-a-brac and plants or held raffles. In 2021 we must use our ingenuity to gather funds – but we can do this!
Most of the money raised in the past has come through sponsorship of the singers (and in years when we can perform at the Riverside Festival we also collected donations from the audience on the day) – and we know this will be harder than usual this year. Please just do what you can!
You can find out more about how to send in the results of your fundraising on the Money Matters Page.
