How does it work?

Music for 2021

We have just two songs for everyone to learn ready to entertain and inspire the audience. This allows time for choirs to showcase some of their own songs to the festival crowd. The massed songs are Hlonolofatsa, and The River. We have permission from the composers / arrangers to use them at Leicester Sing for Water.

Hlonolofatsa

Many Leicester people will recognise this rousing South African song as it was often sung to crowds outside the City football stadium by the DMU Gospel Choir during the season culminating in Leicester City winning the Premiership. Here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ud7juhBsOj8 is Una May Olomolaiye, MD of WorldSong from Coventry, and visiting MD to Leicester Amika Choir, conducting it at London Sing for Water 2019.

The River

This lovely lyrical song was written and composed by Coco Love Alcorn. It was also sung at London Sing for Water 2019. Sophia Efthimiou adapted and arranged it for use at Sing for Water Events and she can be seen singing the solo here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCKZIsWe1l8 Don’t be put off by the seemingly wordy lyrics as soloists chosen from contributing choirs will sing each verse, backed by the massed choir in the simple, repetitive refrain.

Individual Choir Contributions

Musical Directors, do choose one or two typical songs from your choir’s repertoire that will be crowd-pleasers, keep the energy high, and showcase your choir.
This is an opportunity for you to attract more people to the wonderful life-enhancing activity of four-part a capella singing, and maybe win some new members for your choir!
