Welcome to Leicester Sing for Water 2020, hosted by Leicester Riverside Festival on the main stage in Bede Park, Leicester on Sunday June 7th.

We welcome Della Cohen, one of the Musical Directors of Leicester Amika Choir, to conduct the massed festival singers as they sing  two communal songs: a South African song ‘Hlonolofatsa’, and a very uplifting song ‘The River’ by the Canadian singer-songwriter Coco Love Alcorn.

Anyone who enjoys singing is welcome to join the scratch choir raising money for WaterAid. Get your choir to join the project and learn the two communal songs together. If you register, you can download the resources on this website. Then you can listen, choose the part that best suits your voice, and get practising so that you’re word perfect on the day.

Once you are familiar with the songs, you are invited to join Leicester Amika Choir for an open session at the start of their rehearsal promptly at 2.30 on Saturday 30th May at Claremont Methodist Church Belgrave LE4 7QA. There may be another open session, date to be confirmed. The final ‘polishing’ rehearsal will be on the morning of Sunday 7th of June, ready for the performance at 1.00 pm.

Raising Money for Wateraid

It’s hoped that each singer will raise a donation for WaterAid. A goal of £30 per singer would be wonderful, but whatever you manage to raise will be appreciated. Collect through sponsorship or other form of fundraising. Some choirs make a communal effort and bake, sell bric-a-brac or hold raffles.

Money is raised through sponsorship of the singers as well as collections on the day. See the Sponsorship page for further details.

In addition to the massed voices, choirs are invited to sing one or two crowd-pleasing songs from their own repertoire. Do take this opportunity to showcase your choir.

For the first time this year, in addition to the marvellous Community Choirs who make up the Sing for Water choir, we are delighted to welcome an auditioned choir, Lux A Capella, who rehearse locally but draw their members from far and wide. The concert will start with the rousing sound of XR Samba Band, and to close, we will once again welcome Leicester’s own Tann-i Browne with his take on Bob Marley.

There are still far too many children dying of waterborne diseases – and far too many people living without access to clean water, sanitation, or health education. Let's get going, raising money, practising songs and making it a great event in 2020 to change the lives of people in Malawi through the WaterAid projects there!

Many thanks for all your vital help,
