Welcome to Leicester Sing for Water 2016!
We are busy gearing up for this year's event, to take place at 2pm on Sunday the 5th of June in Bede Park, Leicester.
This year, the format of the event will be different from previous years. Two local choirs will each sing a couple of songs from their own repertoire and then come together as one massed choir to sing two more songs directed by Una May Olomolaiye.
The day will be slightly shorter than in previous years, with a morning rehearsal of the massed choir songs between 11.15 and 12.30 (Room 2.01/2.02 Campus Centre in The Gateway LE2 7DP) and then the performance part of the event taking place as usual from 2pm to 3pm on Bede Park.
Each singer will be expected to raise money for WaterAid through sponsorship, but the collection of this money will be within each choir. In addition, we will have people collecting donations from the audience during the performance.
If you would like to take part as a singer, you will need to join Amika Choir or Global Harmony (see the links on the home page). If you are not able to do this, please email us and sign up as donations collectors so you can help us to gather as many donations as possible on the day.
There are still far too many children dying of waterborne diseases – and far too many people living without access to clean water or sanitation. This year we are collecting money for the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. In this new project, WaterAid's aim is to reach more than 35,000 people with safe water and more than 8,800 with improved toilets by 2018. Let's get going, raising money, practising songs and making it a great event in 2016!
All the best,
Maggie, Cee, Kim, Veronica, Tom, Dawn and Ciaran.
