Welcome to Leicester Sing for Water 2020!

Leicester Riverside Festival will host this year’s Leicester Sing for Water on the festival stage in Bede Park, Leicester in June.

The two communal songs will be the South African ‘Hlonolofatsa’, and the uplifting ‘The River’. We welcome Della Cohen, one of the Musical Directors of Leicester Amika Choir, to conduct the massed festival singers.

Anyone who enjoys singing is welcome to join the scratch choir raising money for WaterAid. Get your choir to join the project and learn the two communal songs together, or register yourself for access to the downloadable resources on this website, listen, choose the part that best suits your voice, and get practising so that you’re word perfect on the day.

Once you are familiar with the songs, you are invited to practise them ready for the performance by joining Leicester Amika Choir for one or both of two open sessions at the start of their rehearsals promptly at 2.30 on the 23rd and 30th May. The final ‘polishing’ rehearsal with all participating singers will be in the morning of Sunday 7th of June, ready for the performance at 1.00 pm.

It’s hoped that each singer will raise a donation for WaterAid. A goal of £30 per singer would be wonderful, but whatever you manage to raise will be appreciated. Collect through sponsorship or other form of fundraising. Some choirs also make a communal effort and bake, sell bric-a-brac or hold raffles.

Sponsor forms are available from your choir or Contact Us. Asking your sponsors to tick the gift aid column adds value to your donation. Alternatively, use JustGiving to collect donations online.

Choir members, pass your donation to your Treasurer to send to WaterAid. Not in a choir? Individual singers, bring your cheques made out to WaterAid with your sponsor form to the morning rehearsal on 7th June.

Volunteers are needed to collect from the audience during the stage performanc. Email us and sign up to be a collector and information will be sent to you.

To complete the Sing for Water performance, choirs are invited to sing one or two songs from their own repertoire. This is an opportunity to showcase your choir. There will also be an appearance from Tann-i Browne who will bring his take on Bob Marley and his songs to close the concert

There are still far too many children dying of waterborne diseases – and far too many people living without access to clean water, sanitation, or health education. Let's get going, raising money, practising songs and making it a great event in 2020 to change the lives of people in Malawi through the WaterAid projects there!

Many thanks for all your vital help,
